Camouflage - something (such as colour or shape) that protects an animal from attack by making the animal difficult to see in the area around it. Colony - a group of the same type of animal living or growing together. Down - soft, fine hair, young birds' feathers. Extinction - The process of becoming extinct. No longer in existence; ended or died out. Incubate - To sit upon eggs to keep warm until hatched. Landmark - an object or feature of the landscape that is obvious; acts as a guide to locate. Moult - The removal or loss of old feathers to allow new feathers to grow. Predators - animals that prey on others for food. Renovate - To make new again; to restore to good condition. Salt Gland - a gland, located in the head of seabirds, that removes the excess salt swallowed from seawater. Tussock - a clump (lump) of growing grass. |
